A while back, I expressed this thought to a friend: ”I feel like I missed the boat on Dr. Who. I see stuff everywhere and I have no idea what Tardis means, or what is ‘Bigger on the Inside,’ or what the deal is with the blue box stuff.” J, being a devoted DW fan, briefly explained and I was intrigued.
Game of Thrones had recently ended, and I had no idea what TV show would best serve the purpose of simultaneously torturing my husband and entertaining me (both in the watching and the listening of my German husband express his incredulity in strange English/Bavarian hybrid phrases).
I did a little research. I visited The Bloggess and read about her encounter. I decided to start with Episode 1, Season 1 on Netflix.
I watched the episode. Huh.
I watched Episode 2. Huh. Well, … J did say wait until episode 3.
At this point, my husband point blank refused to let me watch it anymore in his presence. Since I absolutely do not watch TV during the day (this is a dangerous habit to court for a SAHM), I was unable to view it for quite some time.
Then the planets aligned and he became interested in working on his dilapidated VW Love Bus. Yes, we have one. We also have 2 other old German cars in addition to the two we use for daily transport. We own 5 cars. We are indeed the German equivalent of the Beverly Hillbillies….or my Great Uncle Ray who had 6 cars sitting in his yard. He was a hillbilly, in fact, …
But I digress.
So with the husband obsessively repainting the top of the bus, I had most treasured time alone with the remote control. I decided to watch some more Dr. Who. On the advice of a Twitter follower, I just skipped ahead to where David Tennant becomes Dr. Who.
I was hooked. He’s a great actor. And I slowly came to realize that I was totally in love with him. Why oh why didn’t I meet THIS guy in college?!?!
Enter the perfect storm of the Ravellenic Games, Team Tardis, and J’s great dishcloths. As soon as the games were over I knew I had to knit my own. Here they are (Link to Ravelry Project page: Tardis, Angels Getting Tardis, Dalek):
These are such cute patterns by holynarfcrafts (Tardis and Angel Getting Tardis) and Penwiper (“EXFOLIATE!” Dalek). They are free, and so cool. I knit mine pretty loose, so the patterns are hard to see now (they haven’t been washed and dried). I find if I knit them tight they warp when they shrink. So I used size 7′s (size 8′s for those of you who aren’t loose…knitters, I mean).
I’m working on “I <3 <3 DW” (get it?) right now and toying with the idea of making a “I <3 <3 DT.” I’m sporting some serious dishcloth cotton callouses too.
I’m now obsessed with making dishcloths for my obsessions. There is a serious Harry Potter dishcloth pattern deficit on Ravelry. I plan to rectify that soon.
Don’t forget my Project Bag Giveaway ends Monday 8/20!
What’s your favorite dishcloth formula? (yarn + pattern + needles + colors)

I am so happy to be famous at last. Allons-y!——J
